- Unless you know your specific college of choice requires it, do not waste money on the writing portion of the ACT. This costs an extra $25, but most colleges will directly request a writing sample.
- Only recently has the science test become optional. It remains to be seen if that change is permanent. I advise students to spend the $4 and complete the science portion. This recommendation will be updated as I learn more about the change for this academic year.
- The ACT is a marathon and not a sprint. There are strategies you can use to prevent exhaustion, and we’ll discuss them as part of tutoring. For example, mental pauses during the test are important, and you should bring mints to the test—biting something will help wake you up and the minty flavor stimulates your brain activity after hours of quietly sitting!
